# DROP USER — remove a database role

## Description

`DROP USER` is simply an alternate spelling of [`DROP ROLE`](sql-droprole.md).

## Compatibility

The `DROP USER` statement is a PostgreSQL extension. The SQL standard leaves the definition of users to the implementation.
